NEWS: England's Lake District becomes
UNESCO World Heritage Site.
On 9th July 2017, the UNESCO conference confirmed that England's Lake District would be inscribed as a World Heritage Site, joining over 1000 other sites worldwide.
The English Lake District is the 31st World Heritage Site in Britain, but the only one of Britain's National Parks to be given this accolade.
The reasons for this landmark decision revolve around the amazing cultural landscape that visitors to the region enjoy.
The beauty of the Lake District is the result of thousands of years of evolution of the natural landscape of mountains, valleys, lakes and woodland and the influence that man has had on it.
England's Lake District inspired artists of the Picturesque movement whose paintings brought the first visitors, and writers of the Romantic movements such as William Wordsworth, whose ideas about landscape and conservation still have global influence.
The Lake District has been enjoyed and valued by visitors for over 250 years and businesses hope that more people from around the world will be able to enjoy Britains most beautiful region.
There is help on hand for travel trade professionals who would like to boost sales and visitor numbers to England's Lake District, using World Heritage Status as a promotional tool.
