The English Lake District is the most beautiful part of Britain and since July 2017, a World Heritage Site.
The landscape is spectacular. The fells soar above clear lakes, waterfalls crash down into foaming streams and rivers. Traditional breeds of sheep decorate the greenest of fields, while the colours on the hillsides and in the trees change with the seasons and in winter the mountain peaks are capped with sparkling snow.
For centuries, the world’s greatest artists, poets and writers have come here to be inspired and their legacy has made the Lake District one of Britain’s most sought after cultural destinations. Pre-historic stone circles, Roman ruins and Hadrian's Wall add to the weight of history to be found here.
Our lovely region is famous for its food and hospitality as well as the huge choice of cultural and adventurous activities and opportunities to enjoy the landscape, towns and villages. Castles and stately homes, heritage railways and steamers on the lakes complete a place where excitement and adrenalin mixes with beauty, serenity and culture to make it the perfect destination.
All year round, there is easy access to the Lake District by road and rail.
